After 37 years in power, President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe was toppled via a military coup in November His successor and former vice president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, promised a break from Mugabe's authoritarian rule and economic mismanagement, declaring a "new Zimbabwe" that is "open for business. In this report, the author seeks to answer this pressing question by assessing Zimbabwe's political and economic reform efforts after Mugabe. In the report's conclusion, the author forecasts the country's likely trajectory over the next one to three years and offers recommendations for the international community to help support Zimbabwe's recovery.
His contribution to academia and government is appreciated by many who knew him. In order to have an appreciation of his contribution to public administration, relevant literature on the late professor, condolence messages, his publications and his curriculum vitae were perused and analysed.
These documents show that the professor was an extraordinary educationist and professional bureaucrat who wanted to restore credibility to the public service. This marked the beginning of rising cases of infections that reached on 12 August, and deaths during the same period. Although the country has also had a significant number of recoveries totalling to as of 12 August, , it is the management of the pandemic in general that is raising concern among citizens and observers alike. Similarly, the country was yet to recuperate from the EU-US led economic sanctions on the country as well as mediocre economic policies that caused rapid depreciation and shortage of the local currency. The president, the 1st vice president, minister of foreign affairs, lands minister recently died of COVID , the defence minister and other executive members are all former high-ranking military officers. It is expected their experiences and training in the army would be of significant importance during the war against COVID However, as the government tries to respond to the pandemic, sectors such as health, economy, education, and social services which had already been weakened by previous unrelated crises continue to show signs of vulnerability and further disruption as a result of the COVID pandemic.
