Resource: Anything which has some utility for us is called a resource. Some resources have economic value, while some do not. For example; milk has economic value, but a beautiful landscape has no economic value. But both are important because both satisfy some human needs. Time and technology are two important factors which can change a substance into resources. For example; petroleum was not a resource before people learnt to use it.

Learning about the role of natural resources allows for the development of more sustainable methods to manage resources and make sure that they are maintained for future generations. The goal of natural resource economics is to develop an efficient economy that is sustainable in the long-run. Importance of the Environment : This diagram illustrates how society and the economy are subsets of the environment. It is not possible for societal and economic systems to exist independently from the environment. For this reason, natural resource economics focuses on understanding the role of natural resources in the economy in order to develop a sufficient and sustainable economy that protects natural resources.

The interactive map includes detailed information on vegetative cover, natural resource corridors, soils, wetlands, floodplains, geology, topography and the ecological significance of an area. Landowners are encouraged to use the interactive map to learn more about their property. For example, they could see if a planned project has potential to impact a wetland, floodplain or other significant natural resources. Landowners can also find out if part of their property is located in an identified natural resource corridor, making the property eligible for compensation to protect or restore. Local governments should find the interactive map helpful in making everyday land use decisions by being able to easily check for existing wetlands, floodplains and other natural resources on a parcel. The interactive map can also help with planning efforts to manage growth and promote the protection of remaining natural resources and open spaces. Natural resource economics is, as the name suggests, about natural resources. But what exactly are natural resources? Think about this for a moment before reading the following definition. Natural resources are all the original resources of the earth that are utilised by people and the range of natural services provided by these resources that support life and economic activity. Thus natural resources include industrial raw materials and renewable resources such as timber and fisheries, but also other environmental common property resources such as clean freshwater that are used in or support economic activity.

However, even clear-cut examples of natural resources would be difficult to classify as such under this approach, since most resources require at least some.
