Background: Early detection of congenital heart disease is of paramount importance to improve the quality of life of children and prevent morbidity and mortality. Congenital heart disease CHD is one of the major causes of mortality and morbidity in the pediatric population of both the developing and developed countries.
Present aim was to study the prevalence, age and sex wise distribution, and clinical spectrum of congenital heart disease CHD at Sopore, Kashmir, North India. Methods: Around children in the age group 0 months to 18 years were screened for Defects at birth, Diseases in children, Deficiency conditions and Developmental Delays including Disabilities over the period of 18 months under RBSK. Clinical examination, echocardiography and color Doppler were used as diagnostic tools.
Results: A prevalence of 5. VSD ventricular septal defect was the commonest lesion Tetralogy of Fallot was the commonest cyanotic heart disease 8. Maximum numbers of children with heart disease were diagnosed in the age group 6 weeks to 6 years. Conclusions: For better estimation of prevalence of congenital heart diseases, more elaborate community-based studies are needed.
Such community based studies can be easily done by collecting and analyzing data collected from screening programs like RBSK. Such community based screening programs helps in detecting silent cardiac ailments, their prevalence and pattern, and early therapeutic intervention.
A few prevalence studies have been carried out piecemeal in different locations of India; and more such studies can be easily done by collecting and analyzing data collected under RBSK screening program.

The Spanish Association of Pediatrics has as one of its main objectives the dissemination of rigorous and updated scientific information on the different areas of pediatrics. Annals of Pediatrics is the Body of Scientific Expression of the Association and is the vehicle through which members communicate. The Impact Factor measures the average number of citations received in a particular year by papers published in the journal during the two receding years. CiteScore measures average citations received per document published. Read more.

Congenital heart disease CHD is a persistent defect on weeks of fetal life in structural anomalies of the heart present at birth. The incidence of CHD is approximately 0. These persistence of defects of fetal structure after birth is actually or potentially of functional significance and is life-threatening such as congestive heart failure and anoxic spells. It is essential that pediatric nurses should clearly understand about CHD including pathophysiology and major cardiac complications.

Three-dimensional echocardiography 3DE has become a complementary echocardiographic modality in the management of patients with congenital heart disease. The technique has been applied to assessment of cardiac anatomy and quantification of cardiac function as well as peri-operative and interventional guidance. A recent expert consensus document has reviewed the applications in clinical practice for the patient with congenital heart disease 1 and the core concepts of the 3D approach have been described previously 2. This review will focus on practical aspects of the technique, current areas of interest and advances. Good spatial and temporal resolution in 3DE is a priority for imaging of CHD, particularly valve pathology and complex lesions. The matrix transducer has different modalities of data acquisition whose use is dictated by the clinical question Fig.
Metrics details. We aimed to identify the incidence of CHD diagnosed with Echo and systematically review whether Echo should be recommended in this patient group. The methodology utilized in this systematic review adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses framework. The quality of the included studies was evaluated using the Study Quality Assessment Tools developed by the National Institutes of Health. Of the studies screened, six cohort studies, four cross-sectional studies, and two case reports were included in this review.
It seems that you're in Germany. We have a dedicated site for Germany. Congenital heart disease is a multi-faceted and complex subject due to the immense variability in cardiac morphology.
This review article will guide the reader through the basics of echocardiographic assessment of congenital left to right shunts in both paediatric and adult age groups. After reading this article, the reader will understand the pathology and clinical presentation of atrial septal defects ASDs , ventricular septal defects VSDs , atrioventricular septal defects AVSDs and patent arterial duct. Echocardiography is the mainstay in diagnosis and follow-up assessment of patients with congenital heart disease.
My 4-year-old daughter was recently diagnosed with a hole in her heart.
